Copycat Milkbone Dog Biscuits |
Make your own Milkbone dog biscuits with this copycat recipe. Dogs love them!
Here’s one very easy and pretty generic dog biscuit recipe. They smell and look a lot like Milkbone. However, they are much cheaper than the brand name and you know what is going into these.
Plenty of stuff you can add too. I’ve made these for a long time and have changed this up a bit many times. I’ve added liver powder and brewer’s yeast to them since my dogs go absolutely nuts for brewer’s yeast! If you add this, about 1/2 cup will do you, but you will have to adjust the flour you use. Just make sure your dough is firm enough to roll.

As for flour, use whatever you want. I always tell people that my dogs are not sensitive to wheat so I use whole wheat flour generally. I’ve used rye as well. But use anything you like here. The only caveat is that the dough must be rollable. That’s all there is to it.

Ingredients
- 1/3 cup butter or margarine
- 3/4 cup hot water
- 1/3 cup non-fat dry milk
- 1 beef chicken or veggie stock cube
- 3 cups whole-wheat flour or flour of your choice
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line 1 or 2 baking sheets with parchment paper. The amount of sheets you use will depend on how many biscuits you cut by size.
- Cut butter up into pieces and place in a large bowl. Add the non-fat dry milk and the stock cube. Pour the hot water over this and mix until butter is melted.
- Add the flour and mix well, forming a dough you can roll.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out dough to 1/4-inch thickness and cut into desired shapes. Prick with a fork. Place on prepared sheets.
- Bake at 350 degrees F for 45-50 minutes. Turn off the oven and let the biscuits sit in the oven until completely cool. This helps to dry them for storage.
- Amount is variable, but I get about 2 dozen 3-inch bone-shaped biscuits.
