Yes, coat them with butter first then add the breadcrumbs. I just left them in the bowl and tossed the crumbs in since it was easier.

Do you roll the buttered potatoes in the bread crumb mixture ? OR Add the breadcrumb mixture to the melted butter and garlic and potato mixture?

These were incredibly good! I found that if placed the potatoes with the cut side down the topping really adhered better. The smell in the house while these cooked was fantastic!
